LOCATION OF CABIN FILTER: In front of the windshield under the cowl vent screen on the passenger side of the vehicle.
REMOVE ALL DEBRIS IN AND AROUND FILTER LOCATION.
PLEASE NOTE: **No vehicles came standard with a cabin filter so if you want to install a cabin filter in your vehicle you will first need to buy a cabin filter housing from a Jeep Dealer. The housing is part # 822083000.
With hood closed remove the three (3) plastic fasteners securing the cowl vent screen. To ease with removal of the fasteners gently lift on the end of the cowl vent screen to help get the fasteners started or use a flat blade screwdriver to gently pry up on the fastener while unscrewing them with the T-30 Torx wrench.
Open the hood
Grasp the cowl weather-strip on the passenger side and pull it outward to remove.
Gently lift the cowl vent screen enough to locate the plastic air inlet cover or filter housing depending on if this is initial installation. If initial installation follow the steps below. (**For first time installation a filter housing is required.) If this is not the initial installation and a filter is already present skip these steps and continue with step “6”.Locate the plastic tabs that secure the air inlet cover in place. Pull the thin side of the cover out first which is secured by one clip then rock the cover back and forth to remove the “rosebud” clip securing the center of the cover. Remove the cover and disregard or keep so you could install later if desired. The cover will not be needed once new housing and filter is installed.
Take the filter housing you bought from the dealer and insert it into the inlet opening and secure in place with the seal side down. With the housing in hand with seal side down. The housing will have a tab on the left hand end of the housing. This should slide under the far left hand side of the air inlet opening under the cowl vent screen. Once this is
in place properly the two center holes in the housing should line up with the two holes present on the center of the air intake under the cowl vent screen. Take the two push type fasteners that came with your housing kit and push them securely into these center holes.
Install the filter into the housing. The filter can only be installed one way.
Re-seat the cowl vent screen in place.
Re-install the cowl weather-strip.
Close the hood and secure with the cowl vent screen fasteners using the T-30 Torx wrench. (Make sure fasteners are securely in place. If needed bend the locking tabs out on the fasteners to help them stay in place.)
