Engine Performance in the Summer Heat: Optimal Oil Filter Selection

To prepare for intense heat forecasts during the summer, consider using filters with synthetic and synthetic blend filter media. These filters are designed to withstand higher temperatures, offering superior filtration performance and longevity. They keep your engine protected as engine pressure and temperature rise.

Silicone valves

The anti-drain back valve is the one that prevents the oil from draining out of the filter when the engine is turned off. Nitrile valves, commonly found in some filters, may become brittle and crack when exposed to excessive heat. In contrast, filters equipped with silicone valves exhibit better resistance to heat-related issues.

FRAM oil filters are designed with a silicone anti-drain valve to deliver superior start-up engine protection with up to three times the hot oil resistance.

Synthetic oil

Oil filters optimized to work with synthetic oil have better resistance to oxidation and thermal breakdown than conventional filters. Synthetic oils have a more uniform molecular structure, which allows them to flow more easily and provide better lubrication at high temperatures. FRAM Synthetic Endurance™ oil filters are designed for use with synthetic oil to deliver 99% filtration efficiency and maximum engine protection.

How to prevent oil filter overheating

To address overheating oil filter issues, start by diagnosing and rectifying the underlying causes of extreme heat. This may involve inspecting and repairing cooling system components, such as the radiator, thermostat, or water pump. Regular engine maintenance, including timely oil and filter changes, is also key to preventing filter-related issues.

Thankfully, car manufacturers are upping their game to combat these challenges. Advanced filter designs with high-temperature-resistant media, featuring state-of-the-art synthetic fibers and specialized polymers are stepping onto the scene. These cutting-edge solutions ensure that oil filters can handle extreme heat without breaking a sweat.

The bottom line

To maintain filter efficiency in extreme heat, select filters with heat-resistant materials and ensure regular maintenance. Remember, your engine deserves the utmost care, especially when facing the challenges of extreme heat. Stay vigilant, prioritize regular maintenance, and let your oil filter be the defender of your engine.
